Susan Ben-Hamida
BSc Dip. Pod. Med. M.Ch.S.
HPC Reg. Chiropody/Podiatry

Susan has been practicing Chiropody/Podiatry
since 2000. After graduating with a Diploma in
Podiatric Medicine she completed her degree from
Anglia Ruskin University in 2007. Further training in
2008 has involved Glasgow Caledonian University.

Chiropody (also known as Podiatry) is a field of healthcare involving
training in all aspects of care for the feet and lower limbs. Some problems
of the feet may be inherited or may develop from illnesses or from types of
shoes worn.

Typical services provided include :

  • Treatment of dermatological and other foot related problems such as verrucae, in-growing toenails, fungal infection or corns and callous
  • Monitoring and managing problems of the foot caused by diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis
  • Advise and treatment to patients considered 'at risk' of developing foot problems such as sufferers of diabetes
  • Biomechanical assessments

Sometimes, after an initial visit to a Chiropodist/Podiatrist, a biomechanical assessment may be suggested. This is carried out to assess, diagnose and manage joint/heel pain, shin splints, metatarsalyia or plantar fasciitis. A biomechanical assessment would take 45 mins - 1 hour and may result in advice on the benefit of a specialised insole worn inside the shoe that alters the positioning of your foot during the gait cycle.
